Bluebeard's Castle: An Experimental Theatre

2011-2012

Here is a conceptual and an individualistic theatre set design, which is based on a librettto of one of Bartok's operas. It consists of seven chambers, each one of depicts brutality, torture, obscurity, aristocracy and an immortal liberation.
It is a unique design of a theatre set which doesn´t consist of either stage or performers. Rather, the audience takes over the role of performers. The layout is designed in such a way that the audience proceeds through the chambers according to the libretto. All the compartments signify the true essence of the lyrics. The furnishing of the chambers compels the audience to use their senses, in order to experience suspense, curiosity, entrapment and discomfort. Hence, unlike in other operas rather than being passive, here one becomes an integral part of the opera.
